Filing a Complaint

The Office of Professional Standards receives and investigates allegations of misconduct made against members of our department. The Office ensures that these allegations are thoroughly and objectively investigated to their logical conclusion.

Members of the Franklin Township Police Department are dedicated professionals who strive to create an atmosphere of mutual cooperation within our community. We take any matter regarding our personnel seriously. If at any time a member of this department has acted in a manner that you feel is improper, please bring the matter to the attention of any supervisor on duty by calling 856-694-1414. They will assist you in resolving your complaint.

If you feel that your complaint deserves additional attention, file a formal complaint as instructed below.


Filing a Formal Complaint

Any person filing a complaint of misconduct concerning a Franklin Township police officer is assured of the following:
o Your complaint will be sent to a superior or to a specially trained internal affairs officer who will conduct a thorough and objective investigation.
o You will be help the investigation by giving a detailed statement about what happened or by providing other important information.
o All complaints are thoroughly investigated. You will be advised in writing of the outcome of the investigation.
o If our investigation shows that a crime might have been committed, the county prosecutor will be notified. You might be asked to testify in court.
o If our investigation results in an employee being charged with a violation of division rules, you might be asked to testify in a division hearing.
o If our investigation shows that the complaint is unfounded or that the employee acted properly, the matter will be closed.
o All disciplinary hearings shall be closed to the public, unless the defendant officer requests an open hearing.

If you wish to file a formal complaint concerning a Franklin Township police officer please fill out the Internal Affairs Report Form (provide as much information as possible) and mail or email the form to the addresses shown to the right. If you prefer to remain anonymous you may fill out as little or as much information as you wish; however, the more information the more it will be helpful to our investigators.
