[ARCHIVED] Franklin Indian Branch Preserve Dedicated by Green Acres

Mayor Bruno was joined by representatives of South Jersey Land, Water Trust; New Jersey Green Acres; Office of Natural Resource Restoration; New Jersey Conservation Foundation; the Franklin Township Agricultural Advisory, and the Franklin Township Environmental Commission. In addition, the daughters of Louis Schipani, Nancy Wiedemer and MaryAnne Harrington, attended the ceremony.

The property was originally owned by McCoy Industries into the late 1980’s. It was used to burn the insulation and coverings off of scrap copper wiring and other electrical components. The site was designated as a hazardous site by the NJDEP and a clean-up began in 1991 and lasted through 2001. Mr. Schipani then conducted additional clean-up of the site from August 2004 through July 2005, which resulted a “No Further Action” letter from NJDEP concerning the previous activities on the property, and acknowledging the extensive cleanup which the property had undergone.

The Louis Schipani & William Hallissey property is now being dedicated as the “Franklin Indian Branch Preserve." The property encompasses approximately 141 acres of beautiful woodlands. Thank you to the heirs of the Schipani & Hallissey families for their cooperation and donation of this beautiful property to the continued preservation of green acres open spaces in Franklin Township.
