[ARCHIVED] Mayor Bruno Speaks at Kickoff of "Jersey Fresh" Growing Season

Mayor Jake Bruno was invited by New Jersey Department of Agriculture Secretary Ed Wengryn to speak at the 40thAnniversary celebration on Tuesday April 30. The event featured several other dignitaries, including Senator Michael Testa Jr. and Gloucester County Commission Deputy Director Jim Jefferson.

The Consalo Family, a fourth generation farming family and founders of “The Freshwave Fruit & Produce” chose Franklin Township as the newest location for their business expansion.

On display were just some of the items Consalo supplies to outlets across the United States and Canada, including asparagus; cilantro; plain and curly parsley; dandelion; kale; collards; spinach; radish; Swiss chard; leeks; mint, and arugula. Consalo Farms is also well known for their “Little Smoochies” brand of citrus and delicious blueberries

Mayor Bruno highlighted his and the Township Committee’s commitment to supporting local farmers and local businesses, while creating an economic atmosphere which supports all the residents of Franklin Township.  He is also committed to the township’s Farmland and Open Space Preservation program, through which more than 600 acres of farmland have been preserved since 2019. An additional 300 acres are being considered for preservation this year.
