Through a County Public Question in November 1993, the voters of Gloucester County approved the establishment of an Open Space Trust Fund to be used for the preservation of open space and farmland. The Board of County Commissioners of the County of Gloucester, adopted the Open Space Preservation Trust Fund Tax in April 1997. In part, NJSA 40:12-15.3b requires that a county shall not expend more than $100,000.00 for the acquisition of open space unless the governing body of the county first conducts a public hearing.
The County is contemplating the acquisition of the following lands with the use of these funds, for conservation purposes that are consistent with the use of County’s Open Space Preservation Trust Fund.
Owner: Gail Stadtler
Municipality: Township of Monroe, Block 12701, Part of Lot 19
Township of Franklin, Block 104, Part of Lot 42
Total Purchase Costs: $1,200,000.00 plus the cost of appraisal, legal, environmental engineering and
survey work (estimated at $60,000.00).
The Stadtler property is approximately 36 acres in size and is intended to be used by Gloucester County for conservation purposes. The property is adjacent to the Gloucester County Veterans Cemetery and by purchasing the subject property it will create a buffer for the cemetery. The County is eligible to receive fifty percent (50%) of the acquisition cost of the property in matching funds from the NJ Green Acres program.
